                                     AN ACT

     1  Establishing a uniform crime reporting system; requiring all
     2     county and municipal law enforcement agencies to report the
     3     nature and volume of crime occurring within the respective
     4     jurisdictions; authorizing the Pennsylvania State Police to
     5     collect and gather information on crime, make annual reports
     6     and promulgate rules and regulations.

     7     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     8  hereby enacts as follows:
     9  Section 1.  Short title.
    10     This act shall be known and may be cited as the Pennsylvania
    11  Uniform Crime Reporting Act.
    12  Section 2.  Establishment of uniform crime reporting system.
    13     A uniform crime reporting system shall be established under
    14  the direction, control and supervision of the Pennsylvania State
    15  Police. The Pennsylvania State Police shall have the power and
    16  duty, by such rules and regulations as the Pennsylvania State
    17  Police may deem necessary, to collect and gather the information
    18  from State, county and local law enforcement authorities as may

     1  be prescribed in this act.
     2  Section 3.  Collection of information.
     3     The Pennsylvania State Police shall collect, gather, collate
     4  and disseminate the information acquired under this act.
     5  Section 4.  Monthly reports.
     6     All State, county and local law enforcement authorities shall
     7  submit a monthly report to the Pennsylvania State Police, on
     8  forms prescribed by the Pennsylvania State Police, which report
     9  shall contain the number and nature of offenses committed within
    10  their respective jurisdictions, the disposition of such matters
    11  and such other information as the Pennsylvania State Police may
    12  require, respecting information relating to the cause and
    13  prevention of crime, recidivism, the rehabilitation of criminals
    14  and the proper administration of criminal justice.
    15  Section 5.  Compilation of statistics.
    16     Upon receipt of the information, the Pennsylvania State
    17  Police shall have such data collated and formulated and shall
    18  compile such statistics as the Pennsylvania State Police may
    19  deem necessary in order to present a proper classification and
    20  analysis of the volume and nature of crime and the
    21  administration of criminal justice within this Commonwealth.
    22  Section 6.  Annual report.
    23     The Pennsylvania State Police shall render an annual report
    24  of the results of the information gathered and collated to the
    25  Governor, the General Assembly, the Attorney General and the
    26  public.
    27  Section 7.  Effective date.
    28     This act shall take effect January 1, 2002.
