AN ACT
Amending the act of September 30, 1983 (P.L.160, No.39),
entitled "An act establishing salaries and compensation of
certain public officials including justices and judges of
Statewide courts, judges of courts of common pleas, judges of
the Philadelphia Municipal Court, judges of the Philadelphia
Traffic Court, district justices and the Governor, the
Lieutenant Governor, the State Treasurer, the Auditor
General, the Attorney General and certain other State
officers and the salary and certain expenses of the members
of the General Assembly; and repealing certain inconsistent
acts," further providing for the compensation of members of
the General Assembly.
The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. Section 4 of the act of September 30, 1983
(P.L.160, No.39), known as the Public Official Compensation Law,
reenacted and amended November 16, 2005 (P.L.385, No.72), is
amended by adding a subsection to read:
Section 4. Members of the General Assembly.

(e) Suspension of compensation during periods of budget
impasse beyond July 1.-- Notwithstanding any other provision of
this act or other law to the contrary, during any calendar year

in which, by July 1 of that calendar year, no general
appropriation act has been enacted for the fiscal year beginning
July 1 during that calendar year, compensation for the persons
identified under subsections (a) and (b) shall be suspended from
July 1 of that calendar year to the date on which a general
appropriation act for that fiscal year is enacted. Compensation
withheld shall be paid following enactment of the general
appropriation act.
Section 2. This act shall apply to all persons identified
under section 4(a) and (b) of the act who are elected, appointed
or hired to their respective offices or positions after the
effective date of this section.
Section 3. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
