                                     AN ACT

     1  Providing for visibility of cash register screens in places of
     2     business.

     3     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     4  hereby enacts as follows:
     5  Section 1.  Short title.
     6     This act shall be known and may be cited as the Cash Register
     7  Screen Visibility Act.
     8  Section 2.  Definitions.
     9     The following words and phrases when used in this act shall
    10  have the meanings given to them in this section unless the
    11  context clearly indicates otherwise:
    12     "Cash register."  A cash register having a screen on which
    13  the amounts paid for items purchased are displayed.
    14     "Place of business."  A place of business open to the public
    15  for purchases of food, drugs, hardware or other consumer items.
    16  Section 3.  Visibility of cash register screen.
    17     The screen on a cash register in a place of business shall be

     1  placed so that it is clearly visible by the purchaser of the
     2  items which are being rung up on the cash register. No
     3  merchandise or obstruction of any kind shall be placed so as to
     4  interfere with the purchaser's clear view of the cash register
     5  screen.
     6  Section 4.  Effective date.
     7     This act shall take effect in 60 days.
