                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of June 23, 1931 (P.L.932, No.317), entitled
     2     "An act relating to cities of the third class; and amending,
     3     revising, and consolidating the law relating thereto,"
     4     further providing for appointment, compensation and removal
     5     of the city clerk.

     6     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     7  hereby enacts as follows:
     8     Section 1.  Section 1301 of the act of June 23, 1931
     9  (P.L.932, No.317), known as The Third Class City Code, reenacted
    10  and amended June 28, 1951 (P.L.662, No.164), is amended to read:
    11     Section 1301.  Appointment; Compensation; Removal.--The
    12  council of each city shall appoint a city clerk on the first
    13  Monday of May, one thousand nine hundred and fifty-two, and on
    14  the first Monday of May every fourth year thereafter, and fix
    15  his compensation by ordinance. He shall serve for a term of four
    16  years and until his successor is duly appointed and qualified.
    17  The city clerk may not be removed or demoted without a hearing
    18  at which a sufficient cause basis must be established for such
    19  removal or demotion.

     1     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
