                                     AN ACT

     1  Requiring information about carbon monoxide additives to be
     2     placed on packaging labels of meats sold at retail.

     3     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     4  hereby enacts as follows:
     5  Section 1.  General rule.
     6     All meats sold at retail which have been treated with carbon
     7  monoxide shall have affixed to the packaging a label which
     8  clearly and conspicuously informs a purchaser that the contents
     9  of the package have been treated with carbon monoxide.
    10  Section 2.  Enforcement.
    11     The Department of Agriculture shall enforce this act.
    12  Section 3.  Regulations.
    13     The Department of Agriculture may promulgate regulations to
    14  further carry out the provisions of this act.
    15  Section 4.  Penalty.
    16     A retailer that does not comply with section 1 shall pay a
    17  fine of $1,000 per daily incidence to the Department of

     2  Section 5.  Effective date.
     3     This act shall take effect in 60 days.
