                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of May 17, 1921 (P.L.682, No.284), entitled "An
     2     act relating to insurance; amending, revising, and
     3     consolidating the law providing for the incorporation of
     4     insurance companies, and the regulation, supervision, and
     5     protection of home and foreign insurance companies, Lloyds
     6     associations, reciprocal and inter-insurance exchanges, and
     7     fire insurance rating bureaus, and the regulation and
     8     supervision of insurance carried by such companies,
     9     associations, and exchanges, including insurance carried by
    10     the State Workmen's Insurance Fund; providing penalties; and
    11     repealing existing laws," providing for basic property
    12     insurance optional coverage of service dogs.

    13     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    14  hereby enacts as follows:
    15     Section 1.  The act of May 17, 1921 (P.L.682, No.284), known
    16  as The Insurance Company Law of 1921, is amended by adding a
    17  section to read:
    18     Section 506.2.  Basic Property Insurance Optional Coverage of
    19  Service Dogs.--(a)  Every insurance company, association and
    20  exchange issuing basic property insurance policies shall make
    21  available for purchase optional coverage for service dogs.

     1     (b)  As used in this section the following words shall mean:
     2     "Basic property insurance."  The term includes all policies
     3  that provide insurance against direct loss to real or tangible
     4  personal property at a fixed location caused by perils defined
     5  and limited in the standard fire policy prescribed in section
     6  506 and in the extended coverage endorsement approved by the
     7  Insurance Commission under section 354, and such vandalism,
     8  malicious mischief, burglary, theft or such other classes of
     9  insurance as may be determined by the Insurance Commissioner.
    10  The term does not include insurance on motor vehicles, farms or
    11  such manufacturing risks as may be excluded by the Insurance
    12  Commissioner.
    13     "Service dog."  Any dog which has been trained as a guide dog
    14  or signal dog, or to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of
    15  an individual with a disability, including, but not limited to,
    16  guiding individuals with impaired vision, alerting individuals
    17  with impaired hearing to intruders or sounds, pulling a
    18  wheelchair or fetching items.
    19     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
