AN ACT 1 Requiring counties THE PENNSYLVANIA HISTORICAL AND MUSEUM <-- 2 COMMISSION to cause the graves of former Governors of 3 Pennsylvania to be decorated with flags on Memorial Day. 4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 5 hereby enacts as follows: 6 Section 1. Duty of county commissioners PENNSYLVANIA HISTORICAL <-- 7 AND MUSEUM COMMISSION. 8 It shall be the duty of the county commissioners of each <-- 9 county PENNSYLVANIA HISTORICAL AND MUSEUM COMMISSION to provide <-- 10 flags TO LOCAL HISTORICAL SOCIETIES on each Memorial Day with <-- 11 which to decorate the graves of former Governors of Pennsylvania 12 buried within the county THIS COMMONWEALTH. <-- 13 Section 2. Flags. 14 The flags to be used for such purposes shall be the official 15 flag of the Commonwealth with an inscription either on the flag 16 or on an attached banner, as prescribed by the Secretary of the 17 Commonwealth bearing the words "Former Governor of
1 Pennsylvania." The flags and banners shall be of one standard 2 size, as prescribed by the Secretary of the Commonwealth, and 3 shall be purchased at the expense of the county from moneys in <-- 4 the county treasury. The moneys expended by any county under 5 this act shall be in addition to moneys appropriated by counties 6 for Memorial Day purposes. PENNSYLVANIA HISTORICAL AND MUSEUM <-- 7 COMMISSION. 8 Section 3. Determination of grave sites. 9 The county commissioners of each county are hereby authorized <-- 10 and directed PENNSYLVANIA HISTORICAL AND MUSEUM COMMISSION, in <-- 11 cooperation with the local historical society IN EACH COUNTY, IS <-- 12 HEREBY AUTHORIZED AND DIRECTED to determine if any persons 13 elected Governor of the Commonwealth since 1790 are buried in 14 the county and the locations where the bodies are interred. 15 Section 4. Placement of flags. 16 The flags shall be furnished to the local historical society 17 for placement on the graves, with such accompanying ceremonies 18 it may deem appropriate. However, the failure of a local 19 historical society to carry out this function shall not relieve 20 the county commissioners PENNSYLVANIA HISTORICAL AND MUSEUM <-- 21 COMMISSION from the responsibility to see that the flags are 22 placed on the graves. 23 Section 5. Removal of flags. 24 The authorities in charge of any cemetery are authorized to 25 remove such flags when the flags become unsightly or weatherworn 26 at any time not less than 90 days after the flags have been 27 placed on graves. 28 Section 6.
