AN ACT
1 Amending Title 42 (Judiciary and Judicial Procedure) of the
2 Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, further providing for
3 right to bail.
4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5 hereby enacts as follows:
6 Section 1. Section 5701 of Title 42 of the Pennsylvania
7 Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
8 § 5701. Right to bail.
9 All prisoners shall be bailable by sufficient sureties,
10 unless for capital offenses or for offenses for which the
11 maximum sentence is life imprisonment or unless no condition or
12 combination of conditions other than imprisonment will
13 reasonably assure the safety of any person and the community
14 when the proof is [evident] sufficient or presumption great.
15 [Excessive bail shall not be required.]
16 Section 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
