AN ACT
Amending the act of August 9, 1955 (P.L.323, No.130), entitled
"An act relating to counties of the first, second class A,
third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth classes;
amending, revising, consolidating and changing the laws
relating thereto; relating to imposition of excise taxes by
counties, including authorizing imposition of an excise tax
on the rental of motor vehicles by counties of the first
class; and providing for regional renaissance initiatives,"
in coroner, further providing for records.
The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. Section 1236-B of the act of August 9, 1955
(P.L.323, No.130), known as The County Code, is amended to read:
Section 1236-B. Records.
[In counties of the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and
eighth classes, every coroner, within 30 days after the end of
each year, shall deposit all official records and papers for the
preceding year in the Office of the Prothonotary for the
inspection of all persons interested therein.] Records shall be
maintained in the office of the coroner. If no office is
maintained, within 30 days after the end of each year, a public

record providing the name of the deceased, the date of death and
the cause and manner of death shall be deposited in the office
of the prothonotary for the inspection of an individual with an
interest in the record. Except as provided under this article,
public disclosure of a coroner record shall be in accordance
with the act of February 14, 2008 (P.L.6, No.3), known as the
Right-to-Know Law.
Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
