AN ACT 1 Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An 2 act relating to the public school system, including certain 3 provisions applicable as well to private and parochial 4 schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the 5 laws relating thereto," providing for qualifications for 6 athletic directors. 7 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 8 hereby enacts as follows: 9 Section 1. The act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), known 10 as the Public School Code of 1949, is amended by adding a 11 section to read: 12 Section 511.1. Athletic Director Qualifications.--(a) Every 13 athletic director employed by a public school or a private 14 school shall meet the following qualifications: 15 (1) Possess a valid Instructional I or II Certificate. 16 (2) (i) Have a minimum of five (5) years teaching 17 experience at the elementary or secondary level when at least 18 one-half of the applicant's duties were teaching; 19 (ii) possess a degree in sports administration or sports
1 management; or 2 (iii) have a National Interscholastic Athletic 3 Administrators Association designation as a Certified Athletic 4 Administrator. 5 (b) All athletic directors shall, at least every two (2) 6 years, participate in continuing sports administration 7 education, workshops or seminars. 8 (c) The qualifications of subsection (a) shall be applicable 9 to any individual hired after the effective date of this 10 section. Any individual employed as an athletic director on the 11 effective date of this section and who does not possess the 12 qualifications in subsection (a) shall be considered qualified 13 to be employed as an athletic director. 14 (d) Every athletic director hired after the effective date 15 of this act shall be properly certificated by the Department of 16 Education in accordance with this section and standards as the 17 State Board of Education may establish. 18 Section 2.
