                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, further providing for penalties for drivers
     3     required to be licensed.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Section 1501(d) of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania
     7  Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
     8  § 1501.  Drivers required to be licensed.
     9     * * *
    10     (d)  Penalty.--
    11         (1)  Any person violating subsection (a) [is guilty of]
    12     commits a summary offense and shall, upon conviction, be
    13     sentenced to pay a fine of $200, except that, if the person
    14     charged furnishes satisfactory proof of having held a
    15     driver's license valid on the last day of the preceding
    16     driver's license period and no more than one year has elapsed
    17     from the last date for renewal, the fine shall be $25. No


     1     person charged with violating subsection (a) or (b) or
     2     paragraphs (2) and (3) of this subsection shall be convicted
     3     if the person produces at the office of the issuing authority
     4     within 15 days of the violation:
     5             [(1)] (i)  a driver's license valid in this
     6         Commonwealth at the time of the violation; or
     7             [(2)] (ii)  if the driver's license is lost, stolen,
     8         destroyed or illegible, evidence that the driver was
     9         licensed at the time of the violation.
    10         (2)  Any person who recklessly causes bodily injury to
    11     another while violating subsection (a) commits a misdemeanor
    12     of the third degree.
    13         (3)  Any person who recklessly causes serious bodily
    14     injury to another while violating subsection (a) commits a
    15     misdemeanor of the second degree.
    16     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
