AN ACT
1 Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
2 Statutes, further providing for installment payments of
3 fines, costs and surcharges.
4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5 hereby enacts as follows:
6 Section 1. Section 6504 of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania
7 Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
8 § 6504. [Inability to pay fine and costs.] Installment payment
9 of fines, costs and surcharges.
10 (a) Order for installment payments.--[Upon plea and proof
11 that a person is unable to pay any fine and costs imposed under
12 this title, a court] Any court, including the Traffic Court of
13 Philadelphia and the Traffic Court of Pittsburgh, may, in
14 accordance with 42 Pa.C.S. § 9758 (relating to fine) or Pa.R.
15 Crim.P. Ch. 1400, order payment of [the fine and costs] any
16 fines, costs and surcharges imposed under this title in
1 installments and shall fix the amounts, times and manner of
2 payment.
3 (b) Imprisonment for nonpayment.--Any person who does not
4 comply with an order entered under this section may be
5 imprisoned for a number of days equal to one day for each $10 of
6 the unpaid balance of the fine and costs.
7 Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
