AN ACT
Designating a portion of U.S. Route 19 between Ivory Avenue and
Cemetery Lane in Ross Township, Allegheny County, as the
Chief Vernon Moses Memorial Highway.
The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. Chief Vernon Moses Memorial Highway.
(a) Findings.--The General Assembly finds and declares as
follows:
(1) During the 1930s, the John Maug Gang was terrorizing
Allegheny County with a series of burglaries, armed robberies
and shootings of area police officers.
(2) During the evening of May 3, 1932, Ross Township
Police Chief Vernon "Port" Moses was on patrol when he
observed the gang driving on a local roadway.
(3) A vehicle pursuit ensued and Chief Moses was able to
pull in front of and stop the gang's vehicle at the site of
the former Keating Trolley Car Barn located at the corner of
Perrysville and Westview Avenues.
