                                     AN ACT

1 Redesignating the bridge on State Route 228 which passes over
2 Interstate 79 in Cranberry Township, Butler County, as the
3 79th Infantry Division Memorial Bridge.

4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5 hereby enacts as follows:
6 Section 1. 79th Infantry Division Memorial Bridge.
7 (a) Findings.--The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of
8 Pennsylvania finds and declares as follows:
9 (1) The 79th Infantry Division of the United States Army
10 fought gallantly at Utah Beach in Normandy and elsewhere
    11 during World War II.
12 (2) The 79th Infantry Division was known as the "Cross
13 of Lorraine Division" from the insignia they wore on their
    14 shoulders.
15 (3) The 79th Infantry Division contained three

1 regiments, the 313th Infantry Regiment, the 314th Infantry
2 Regiment and the 315th Infantry Regiment.
3 (4) The members of the 79th Infantry Division braved
4 frigid waters and a torrent of enemy fire to land on the
5 European continent and begin the long march that would put an
6 end to the tyranny of the Nazis. Sadly, many members would
7 never return home to their families.
8 (5) This June will mark the 50th anniversary of the 79th
9 Infantry Division's landing in Normandy.
10 (6) It is fitting and sound public policy to honor those
11 brave soldiers and thank them for their sacrifices to
    12 preserve our freedom.
    13 (b) Redesignation.--The bridge on State Route 228 which
14 passes over Interstate 79 in Cranberry Township, Butler County,
15 Department of Transportation No. 10-0228-0010-1443, is hereby
16 redesignated as the 79th Infantry Division Memorial Bridge.
17 (c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and
18 maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the bridge
19 redesignated in subsection (b) to traffic in both directions on
20 the bridge. These signs shall contain a reproduction of the 79th
21 Infantry Division insignia. The Department of Transportation
22 shall also place an appropriate marker containing the name of
23 the bridge on both sides of the bridge to be visible to traffic
    24 on Interstate 79.
    25 Section 2. Effective date.
26 This act shall take effect in 60 days.
