        AS REPORTED FROM COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION, HOUSE OF
           REPRESENTATIVES, AS AMENDED, MAY 30, 1990

                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of July 2, 1984 (P.L.553, No.110), entitled, as
     2     reenacted and amended, "An act establishing a program within
     3     the Department of Commerce to provide grants to engineering
     4     degree-granting schools to assist in the acquisition of new
     5     engineering equipment or the upgrading of existing
     6     engineering equipment that is necessary to provide students
     7     with the courses required to obtain a degree in engineering,"
     8     further providing for THE COVERAGE OF THE ACT, FOR             <--
     9     reallocation of unused funds and for the expiration of the
    10     act.

    11     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    12  hereby enacts as follows:
    13     Section 1.  Sections 3(d) and 6 THE DEFINITION OF              <--
    14  "ENGINEERING DEGREE-GRANTING SCHOOL" IN SECTION 2 of the act of
    15  July 2, 1984 (P.L.553, No.110), known as the Engineering School
    16  Equipment Act, reenacted and amended July 9, 1987 (P.L.211,
    17  No.35) and amended July 11, 1989 (P.L.318, No.53), are IS         <--
    18  amended to read:
    19  SECTION 2.  DEFINITIONS.                                          <--
    20     THE FOLLOWING WORDS AND PHRASES WHEN USED IN THIS ACT SHALL
    21  HAVE THE MEANINGS GIVEN TO THEM IN THIS SECTION UNLESS THE

     1  CONTEXT CLEARLY INDICATES OTHERWISE:
     2     * * *
     3     "ENGINEERING DEGREE-GRANTING SCHOOL."  AN INSTITUTION OF
     4  HIGHER EDUCATION WHICH OFFERS ON ITS CAMPUS ALL COURSES IN A
     5  FOUR-YEAR CURRICULUM IN ENGINEERING LEADING TO A BACCALAUREATE
     6  DEGREE OR WHICH OFFERS CURRICULUM IN ENGINEERING OR ENGINEERING
     7  TECHNOLOGY WHICH HAS BEEN APPROVED BY THE ACCREDITATION BOARD OF
     8  ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY (ABET) AND IS RECOGNIZED AS SUCH BY
     9  THE STATE REGISTRATION BOARD FOR PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS.

    11     SECTION 2.  SECTIONS 3(D) AND 6 OF THE ACT, AMENDED JULY 11,
    12  1989 (P.L.318, NO.53), ARE AMENDED TO READ:
    13  Section 3.  Engineering equipment acquisition and upgrade.

    15     (d)  Distribution of unused funds.--Any allocated funds which
    16  have not been expended consistent with subsection (c) by June
    17  30, [1989] 1990 1992, shall be available for reallocation by the  <--
    18  board.
    19  Section 6.  Expiration.
    20     This act shall expire June 30, [1990] 1993.
    21     Section 2 3.  This act shall take effect immediately.          <--
