                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 24 (Education) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, further providing for exceptions.

     3     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     4  hereby enacts as follows:
     5     Section 1.  Section 6501 of Title 24 of the Pennsylvania
     6  Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
     7  § 6501.  Applicability of chapter.
     8     (a)  General rule.--This chapter applies to, and the word
     9  "institution" in this chapter means, any institution which
    10  applies to itself, either as part of its name or in any other
    11  manner, the designation of "college," "university" or "seminary"
    12  in such a way as to give the impression that it is an
    13  educational institution conforming to the standards and
    14  qualifications prescribed by the State board. Nothing is this
    15  chapter shall be construed to expand the powers of the State
    16  board with respect to any institution heretofore existing.
    17     (b)  Exceptions.--Notwithstanding subsection (a), this


     1  chapter does not apply to any:
     2         (1)  Incorporated or unincorporated theological seminary
     3     without power to confer degrees.
     4         (2)  Public instrumentality subject to the policy
     5     supervision and direction of the State board.
     6         (3)  Corporation for profit as defined in 15 Pa.C.S. §
     7     102 (relating to definitions), which applies the term
     8     "corporate university" to signify its conduct of a program
     9     solely for the training and education of its own employees
    10     and which does not have the power to confer degrees of any
    11     sort.
    12     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
