AN ACT 1 Designating a bridge in the borough of Renovo, Clinton County, 2 the Pennsylvania Railroad Bridge. 3 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 4 hereby enacts as follows: 5 Section 1. Finding of fact. 6 The General Assembly finds and declares as follows: 7 (1) In 1970, HRI Incorporated built a steel, multigirder 8 bridge, 192 feet in length, over a section of what was then 9 the Pennsylvania Railroad. 10 (2) The bridge referred to in paragraph (1) can stand 11 today as a symbol of the great Pennsylvania Railroad, which 12 was the first great business enterprise in America. 13 (3) The Pennsylvania Railroad, called "the standard 14 railroad of the world," was chartered on April 13, 1846. By 15 1854 it was a continuous rail route from Philadelphia to 16 Pittsburgh; and, at its pinnacle the Pennsylvania Railroad 17 service territory extended from Manhattan to St. Louis.
1 (4) The Pennsylvania Railroad connected our two largest 2 cities, while bringing commerce and jobs to wide ranging 3 parts of this Commonwealth. The hard-working employees of the 4 railroad who contributed so much of their blood, sweat and 5 tears to this Commonwealth deserve appropriate recognition. 6 Section 2. The Pennsylvania Railroad Bridge. 7 (a) Designation authorized.--The bridge designated by the 8 Department of Transportation as Bridge No. 18012004201253, which 9 passes over a section of the Norfolk Southern Railroad in the 10 borough of Renovo, Clinton County, is designated and shall be 11 known as the Pennsylvania Railroad Bridge. 12 (b) Signs.--Appropriate signs shall be posted and maintained 13 by the Department of Transportation. 14 Section 3.
