                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 51 (Military Affairs) of the Pennsylvania
     2     Consolidated Statutes, authorizing school districts to
     3     establish programs for awarding high school diplomas to
     4     certain military veterans.

     5     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     6  hereby enacts as follows:
     7     Section 1.  Title 51 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     8  Statutes is amended by adding a section to read:
     9  § 4109.  Operation recognition.
    10     A school district shall have the power and may establish a
    11  program to be known as "Operation Recognition" which provides
    12  for granting a high school diploma to any honorably discharged
    13  veteran who served in the United States military in World War II


     1  between September 16, 1940, and December 31, 1946, who attended
     2  high school between 1937 and 1946 and who would have been a
     3  member of a graduation class during the years 1941 through 1950
     4  but did not graduate from high school due to entering military
     5  service. A school district may establish an application and
     6  requirements to apply for awarding of a diploma in accordance
     7  with this section. A school district may award a diploma
     8  posthumously to an eligible veteran.
     9     Section 2.  This act shall take effect immediately.
