                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
     2     act relating to the public school system, including certain
     3     provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
     4     schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
     5     laws relating thereto," further providing for health
     6     services.

     7     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     8  hereby enacts as follows:
     9     Section 1.  Section 1402(a.1) of the act of March 10, 1949
    10  (P.L.30, No.14), known as the Public School Code of 1949,
    11  amended December 7, 1965 (P.L.1041, No.390), is amended to read:
    12     Section 1402.  Health Services.--* * *
    13     (a.1)  Every child of school age shall be provided with
    14  school nurse services: Provided, however, That the number of
    15  high school pupils under the care of each school nurse shall not
    16  exceed [one thousand five hundred (1,500).] one thousand
    17  (1,000); the number of middle school pupils under the care of
    18  each school nurse shall not exceed one thousand (1,000); and


     1  each elementary school building shall be staffed with at least
     2  one school nurse. For purposes of this subsection, an elementary
     3  school building shall include any school building where pupils
     4  in kindergarten or first, second, third, fourth, fifth or sixth
     5  grade are in attendance.

     7     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
