                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
     2     act relating to the public school system, including certain
     3     provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
     4     schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
     5     laws relating thereto," providing for a tutoring program.

     6     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     7  hereby enacts as follows:
     8     Section 1.  The act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), known
     9  as the Public School Code of 1949, is amended by adding a
    10  section to read:
    11     Section 1522.  Tutoring Program.--(a)  The State Board of
    12  Education shall by regulation establish a tutoring program
    13  whereby pupils in grades eleven and twelve may tutor pupils in
    14  grades one through six. These regulations shall, at a minimum,
    15  provide for the following:
    16     (1)  The qualifications of pupils eligible to serve as
    17  tutors.
    18     (2)  The qualifications of pupils eligible for tutoring.


     1     (3)  That participating tutors receive academic credits for
     2  these services.
     3     (4)  That, in addition to clause (2), guidelines be
     4  established to encourage eleventh and twelfth grade pupils with
     5  academic problems to volunteer for the program as tutors.
     6     (b)  This program shall apply in every school district.
     7     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
