                                     AN ACT

     1  Providing for areas to commemorate POWs and MIAs at rest stops
     2     and welcome centers.

     3     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     4  hereby enacts as follows:
     5  Section 1.  POW/MIA areas.
     6     The Department of Transportation shall set aside an area of
     7  at least one-quarter acre in size to commemorate POWs and MIAs
     8  at each of the rest stops on State highways and State-owned
     9  welcome centers. These areas shall continuously display the
    10  official POW/MIA flag from a lighted flagpole until all POWs and
    11  MIAs return or are accounted for.
    12  Section 2.  Signage.
    13     The Department of Transportation shall erect and maintain
    14  appropriate signage to designate the POW/MIA area.
    15  Section 3.  Coordination with veterans' organizations.

     1     The Department of Transportation shall coordinate with
     2  veterans' organizations throughout this Commonwealth to further
     3  develop memorials or other methods of recognition of POWs and
     4  MIAs for the designated areas.
     5  Section 4.  Effective date.
     6     This act shall take effect in 60 days.
