                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Titles 24 (Education) and 71 (State Government) of the
     2     Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, further providing for
     3     supplemental annuities commencing 1998.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Section 8348.5(e) of Title 24 of the Pennsylvania
     7  Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
     8  § 8348.5.  Supplemental annuities commencing 1998.
     9     * * *
    10     (e)  Benefits to beneficiaries or survivors.--[No] A
    11  supplemental annuity provided under this section shall be
    12  payable to the beneficiary or survivor annuitant of a member who
    13  dies before July 1, 1998.

    15     Section 2.  Section 5708.5(e) of Title 71 is amended to read:
    16  § 5708.5.  Supplemental annuities commencing 1998.

     2     (e)  Benefits paid to beneficiaries or survivors.--[No] A
     3  supplemental annuity provided under this section shall be
     4  payable to the beneficiary or survivor annuitant of a member who
     5  dies before July 1, 1998.
     6     * * *
     7     Section 3.  The amendment of 24 Pa.C.S. § 8348.5(e) and 71
     8  Pa.C.S. § 5708.5(e) shall apply to monthly annuity payments
     9  beginning on the first day of the month following the effective
    10  date of this act.
    11     Section 4.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
