                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 25 (Elections) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, providing for hyphenated surnames.

     3     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     4  hereby enacts as follows:
     5     Section 1. Title 25 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes
     6  is amended by adding a section to read:
     7  § 1503.1.  Hyphenated surnames.
     8     (a)  Restoration.--To the extent possible upon its connection
     9  to the SURE system, a commission shall restore the hyphenated
    10  surname of any registered elector from which the commission,
    11  prior to its connection to the SURE system, removed the hyphen.
    12     (b)  Written request.--In the event that a commission no
    13  longer possesses the registration records necessary to restore a
    14  hyphenated surname in accordance with subsection (a), the
    15  commission shall restore the hyphenated surname of a registered
    16  elector upon a written request from the registered elector.
    17     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
