                                  A RESOLUTION

1 Declaring the week of March 16 through 22, 1997, as "Emergency
2 Service Providers Week" in Pennsylvania.

3 WHEREAS, The citizens of Pennsylvania benefit daily from the
4 services, knowledge and skills of paid and volunteer emergency
5 service providers as they endure conditions that are stressful,
6 dangerous and hazardous to themselves so that they may protect
7 lives and offer security to others; and
8 WHEREAS, These people include police officers, firefighters,
9 medical and health professionals, rescue service personnel,
10 emergency service dispatchers, engineering and public utility
11 personnel, countless other public servants offering aid and
12 assistance to the public and members of the public who aid their
13 neighbors in a genuine expression of community; and
14 WHEREAS, emergency service providers by their selfless
15 actions contribute immeasurably to the health and welfare of

1 every person they encounter while performing these deeds; and
2 WHEREAS, In recent history, we have been reacquainted with
3 their heroic deeds as this Commonwealth has struggled through
4 harsh winter seasons and the damage that resulted; and
5 WHEREAS, In appreciation and recognition of the organized
6 efforts of emergency service providers and those who assist and
7 support them, the Commonwealth should set aside a week to
8 commemorate, appreciate and recognize emergency service
     9 providers; and
10 WHEREAS, Without proper recognition and support for the
11 activities that benefit emergency services, we place at risk the
12 many important programs that make up Pennsylvania's emergency
13 services and we endanger the public; therefore be it
14 RESOLVED, That the Senate declare the week of March 16
15 through 22, 1997, as "Emergency Service Providers Week" in
16 Pennsylvania in recognition of the heroism, bravery and courage
17 that emergency service providers have displayed on countless
18 occasions and in appreciation of the personnel who provide and
    19 support emergency services.
