A RESOLUTION 1 Designating March 2001 as "Women's History Month" in 2 Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, American women of every race, class and ethnic 4 background have made historic contributions to the growth and 5 strength of our nation in countless recorded and unrecorded 6 ways; and 7 WHEREAS, American women have played and continue to play a 8 critical economic, cultural and social role in every sphere of 9 the life of the nation by constituting a significant portion of 10 the labor force working inside and outside of the home; and 11 WHEREAS, American women have played a unique role throughout 12 the history of the nation by providing the majority of the 13 volunteer labor force of the nation; and 14 WHEREAS, American women were particularly important in the 15 establishment of early charitable, philanthropic and cultural 16 institutions in our nation; and 17 WHEREAS, American women of every race, class and ethnic
1 background served as early leaders in the forefront of every 2 major progressive social change movement; and 3 WHEREAS, American women have been leaders not only in 4 securing their own rights of suffrage and equal opportunity but 5 also in the abolitionist movement, the emancipation movement, 6 the industrial labor movement, the civil rights movement and 7 other movements, especially the peace movement, which have 8 contributed to a more fair and just society for all; and 9 WHEREAS, Despite these contributions, the role of American 10 women in history has been consistently overlooked and 11 undervalued in the literature, teaching and study of American 12 history; therefore be it 13 RESOLVED, That the Senate designate March 2001 as "Women's 14 History Month" in Pennsylvania.
