A RESOLUTION 1 Designating October 23 through 30, 1997, as "Red Ribbon Week" in 2 Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, Alcohol and other drug use in this nation and this 4 Commonwealth continues in epidemic proportions, killing those in 5 the 15-to-24-year-old age group faster than any other; and 6 WHEREAS, Visible, unified prevention education efforts by 7 community members must be launched to reduce the demand for 8 drugs; and 9 WHEREAS, The Office of Attorney General is sponsoring the Red 10 Ribbon Campaign, offering citizens of Pennsylvania the 11 opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to a drug-free 12 lifestyle; and 13 WHEREAS, The Red Ribbon Campaign is being celebrated in every 14 community during "Red Ribbon Week" in the days before Halloween; 15 and 16 WHEREAS, Business, government, law enforcement, schools, 17 religious institutions, service organizations, physicians,
1 soldiers, sailors and airmen, sports teams and the people of 2 this Commonwealth regardless of age, color, wealth or religion 3 are demonstrating their commitment to living lives that do not 4 require the abuse of drugs or alcohol to be enjoyed by wearing 5 and displaying red ribbons during this weeklong campaign; 6 therefore be it 7 RESOLVED, That the Senate proclaim October 23 through 30, 8 1997, as "Red Ribbon Week" in Pennsylvania and encourage all 9 citizens of this Commonwealth to participate in drug education 10 and prevention activities to visibly show support for our strong 11 commitment to a drug-free Commonwealth.
