No. 77 Session of 1999


        INTRODUCED BY JUBELIRER, RHOADES, MELLOW, BRIGHTBILL, FUMO,
           CONTI, STAPLETON, THOMPSON, SALVATORE, MURPHY, GERLACH,
           WENGER, HOLL, WAGNER, MOWERY, CORMAN, STOUT, WHITE, DENT,
           GREENLEAF, BELAN, ROBBINS, WOZNIAK AND BOSCOLA, MAY 11, 1999

        INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED, MAY 11, 1999

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing the week of July 17 through 24, 1999, as "Big 33
     2     Week" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, The 42nd Annual Big 33 Football Classic between
     4  Pennsylvania and Ohio is taking place in Hersheypark Stadium on
     5  Saturday, July 24, 1999; and
     6     WHEREAS, A great source of pride to this Commonwealth, the
     7  Big 33 Football Classic represents the best in our youth, their
     8  commitment to excellence and the bright promise they hold for
     9  the future; and
    10     WHEREAS, The mission of the Big 33 Football Classic is to
    11  produce the highest-caliber scholastic all-star football game,
    12  showcasing Pennsylvania students' athletic abilities and their
    13  desire to participate in an event that has raised over $1
    14  million for academic scholarships for deserving high school
    15  students as well as charitable funds for other worthy
    16  organizations since 1985; and
    17     WHEREAS, More than just a football game, the Big 33 Football

     1  Classic builds activities around the event under the theme "Kids
     2  Helping Kids," thereby enabling the players to reach out to
     3  their special needs "buddies" as well as to various charitable
     4  organizations throughout this Commonwealth; and
     5     WHEREAS, The Big 33 Football Classic has made a difference in
     6  the education of the students involved due to the fine coaches
     7  demanding excellence in the classroom as well as on the field;
     8  and
     9     WHEREAS, Every Super Bowl has had at least one participant
    10  who was an alumnus of the Big 33 Football Classic, thereby
    11  inspiring the youth of this Commonwealth to continue to excel in
    12  football; therefore be it
    13     RESOLVED, That the Senate proudly recognize the 42nd Annual
    14  Big 33 Football Classic and heartily commend the players and all
    15  others involved in this most worthy event for their endeavors to
    16  improve the quality of life for all students in this
    17  Commonwealth; and be it further
    18     RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the week of July 17
    19  through 24, 1999, as "Big 33 Week" in Pennsylvania.
