A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing May 1, 2003, as "Prayer Day" in Pennsylvania as part 2 of the annual "National Day of Prayer" celebration. 3 WHEREAS, "National Day of Prayer" is a tradtion established 4 by the First Continental Congress in 1775; and 5 WHEREAS, In 1988 the Congress of the United States 6 permanently established "National Day of Prayer" on the first 7 Thursday in May; and 8 WHEREAS, Prayer is recognized by people of all faiths in this 9 Commonwealth and our nation without regard to racial, social, 10 political, denominational or other boundaries; and 11 WHEREAS, Prayer is an important part of the lives of many 12 Pennsylvanians as they search for spiritual guidance and support 13 in conjunction with their daily actions and decisions, 14 especially during perilous times; and 15 WHEREAS, Dangers and threats to this Commonwealth and its 16 citizens are manifest in days of terrorism and armed conflict,
1 and it is appropriate that the citizens of this Commonwealth 2 seek strength and guidance through prayer; therefore be it 3 RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize May 1, 2003, as "Prayer 4 Day" in Pennsylvania as part of the annual "National Day of 5 Prayer" and as an opportunity for Pennsylvanians to stand 6 together, give thanks, seek guidance and share common hopes and 7 dreams.
