        INTRODUCED BY STACK, BOSCOLA, KITCHEN, THOMPSON, BRIGHTBILL,
           FERLO, STOUT, ERICKSON, MELLOW, WONDERLING, WENGER, O'PAKE,
           CONTI, COSTA, PILEGGI, WOZNIAK, MUSTO, SCARNATI, GREENLEAF,
           D. WHITE, RAFFERTY, LOGAN, TARTAGLIONE, C. WILLIAMS,
           ARMSTRONG, ORIE, LEMMOND AND LAVALLE, APRIL 19, 2005

        INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED, APRIL 19, 2005

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating the week of April 30 through May 7, 2005, as "SAFE
     2     KIDS Week" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, From 1998 through 2002, 1,172 Pennsylvania children
     4  under 15 years of age lost their lives because of violence and
     5  unintentional injuries and many more sustained lifelong,
     6  disabling injuries; and
     7     WHEREAS, These 1,172 injuries resulted from falls, motor
     8  vehicle crashes, poisoning, choking, fires, scalds, drowning and
     9  violence; and
    10     WHEREAS, Most injuries are caused by environmental hazards
    11  and failure to use safety devices; and
    12     WHEREAS, By understanding the risks, parents and caregivers
    13  can make their families, homes and communities safer for
    14  children; and
    15     WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania SAFE KIDS Coalition is a grass-
    16  roots effort to reduce injuries and deaths to children under 15


     1  years of age in this Commonwealth; and
     2     WHEREAS, This Statewide coalition and 41 local coalitions and
     3  chapters are working in communities to make people more aware of
     4  injury risks and what can be done to eliminate them; and
     5     WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania SAFE KIDS Coalition is part of the
     6  National SAFE KIDS Campaign; therefore be it
     7     RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the week of April 30
     8  through May 7, 2005, as "SAFE KIDS Week" in Pennsylvania.
