SENATE RESOLUTION

No. 90 Session of 1989


        INTRODUCED BY AFFLERBACH, BRIGHTBILL, WENGER, STAPLETON,
           ARMSTRONG AND REGOLI, JUNE 27, 1989

        INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED, JUNE 27, 1989

                            A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

     1  Memorializing the Governor and the State Lottery to not conduct
     2     lottery drawings seven days per week.

     3     WHEREAS, The State Lottery Commission has announced plans to
     4  hold televised drawings of the Daily Number and Big 4 games
     5  seven days per week beginning July 2, 1989; and
     6     WHEREAS, Currently, drawings for these games are held six
     7  days per week; and
     8     WHEREAS, More frequent drawings and increased prizes make
     9  gambling more attractive; and
    10     WHEREAS, Making gambling more attractive often entices people
    11  to spend more money than they can afford on gambling; and
    12     WHEREAS, Sunday is traditionally a day of rest set aside for
    13  family activities; and
    14     WHEREAS, The State Lottery can realize increased revenues by
    15  the use of different marketing techniques and different games
    16  just as well as by increasing the schedule of drawings from six
    17  to seven; therefore be it


     1     RESOLVED (the House of Representatives concurring), That the
     2  General Assembly memorialize the Governor and the State Lottery
     3  Commission to not conduct lottery drawings seven days per week;
     4  and be it further
     5     RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
     6  the Governor and to the Executive Director of the State Lottery.
