SENATE RESOLUTION

No. 92 Session of 2001


        INTRODUCED BY GREENLEAF, JUBELIRER, ARMSTRONG, BOSCOLA,
           HELFRICK, HOLL, MOWERY, MUSTO, O'PAKE, ORIE, RHOADES, STACK,
           TILGHMAN, TOMLINSON, WAUGH, D. WHITE, DENT, LEMMOND,
           SCHWARTZ, WILLIAMS AND TARTAGLIONE, JUNE 20, 2001

        INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED, JUNE 20, 2001

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Urging the President and Congress of the United States to offer
     2     condolences to the people of the State of Israel for the
     3     losses suffered in the June 1, 2001, terrorist attack in Tel
     4     Aviv, to strongly condemn any use of terrorism and to
     5     reaffirm the desire of the people of the United States to
     6     assist the parties in their efforts to achieve peace.

     7     WHEREAS, The State of Israel and the City of Tel Aviv
     8  suffered a vicious terrorist attack on Friday, June 1, 2001,
     9  which terrorist attack took the lives of 20 innocent young
    10  people; and
    11     WHEREAS, The State of Israel is under continuing violent
    12  attacks against its people; and
    13     WHEREAS, It is necessary to put an unconditional end to the
    14  use of terrorism and violence in order to enable the parties to
    15  secure peace in the region; and
    16     WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the Federal Government to
    17  support the State of Israel and assist in the peace process;
    18  therefore be it
    19     RESOLVED, That the Senate of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

     1  urge the President and Congress of the United States to:
     2         (1)  Offer condolences to the people of the State of
     3     Israel and especially to the families of those victims who
     4     suffered losses in the terrorist attack of June 1, 2001, in
     5     Tel Aviv.
     6         (2)  Strongly condemn that attack and any use of
     7     terrorism in order to achieve political gains or for any
     8     other reason.
     9         (3)  Reaffirm the desire of the people of the United
    10     States to assist the parties in their efforts to achieve a
    11     full and lasting peace;
    12  and be it further
    13     RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to
    14  the President of the United States, to the presiding officers of
    15  each house of Congress and to each member of Congress from
    16  Pennsylvania.
