           TARTAGLIONE, O'PAKE, D. WHITE, BRIGHTBILL, PILEGGI, CORMAN,
           COSTA, STACK, KASUNIC, TOMLINSON, WONDERLING, ARMSTRONG,
           LEMMOND, GREENLEAF, C. WILLIAMS, A. WILLIAMS, ROBBINS,
           ERICKSON, DENT, ORIE, WENGER, MUSTO, WOZNIAK, LOGAN, STOUT,
           BOSCOLA, KITCHEN, WAUGH, M. WHITE, MELLOW, THOMPSON,
           RAFFERTY, PUNT, RHOADES, SCHWARTZ, CONTI AND FERLO,

        INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED, MAY 7, 2003

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating May 7, 2003, as "Vietnam Veterans Recognition Day"
     2     in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Beginning in 1950 and ending with troop evacuations
     4  in 1975, the Vietnam War was the longest conflict in American
     5  history; and
     6     WHEREAS, More than 300,000 service members were wounded in
     7  Vietnam and approximately 75,000 were severely disabled; and
     8     WHEREAS, Of the 58,000 service members killed, 3,142 were
     9  from this Commonwealth; and
    10     WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Forces of the United States
    11  stationed in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War served our
    12  nation under the most trying conditions at a time when the
    13  nation was divided in its support; and
    14     WHEREAS, Since their return, these veterans have contributed
    15  tremendously to their communities, states and nation in an

     1  effort to advance the American ideals for which they fought; and
     2     WHEREAS, We must never forget the pain and suffering that
     3  lingers today for the men and women who fought with honor and
     4  distinction in the name of freedom and democracy for all; and
     5     WHEREAS, The people of Pennsylvania acknowledge the courage,
     6  sacrifice, honor and positive achievements of our nation's
     7  Vietnam veterans and their families; and
     8     WHEREAS, All patriotic citizens and especially the Vietnam
     9  veteran community of this Commonwealth, along with families and
    10  friends, appreciate and remember those Americans who served and
    11  fought, those who were wounded, those who are missing and those
    12  who died during this era; and
    13     WHEREAS, The Vietnam veterans desire public recognition of
    14  these sacrifices, advocate the commemoration of United States
    15  involvement in Vietnam and reaffirm their dedication to duty,
    16  honor and courage as fellow Vietnam combat veterans; therefore
    17  be it
    18     RESOLVED, That the Senate designate May 7, 2003, as "Vietnam
    19  Veterans Recognition Day" in Pennsylvania and extend its
    20  gratitude and reaffirm its appreciation to our sons and
    21  daughters who contributed to the security of the United States
    22  through honorable military service in Vietnam.
