A RESOLUTION 1 Urging the Governor to proclaim the month of October 1999 as 2 "Lupus Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease which causes 4 inflammation of various parts of the body, especially the skin, 5 joints, blood and kidneys; and 6 WHEREAS, Lupus affects one out of every 185 Americans and 7 strikes adult women 10 to 15 times more frequently than adult 8 men; and 9 WHEREAS, Lupus is more prevalent in African-Americans, 10 Latinos, Native Americans and Asians; and 11 WHEREAS, More people have lupus than AIDS, cerebral palsy, 12 multiple sclerosis, sickle cell anemia and cystic fibrosis 13 combined; and 14 WHEREAS, Thousands of Americans die each year from lupus- 15 related complications; therefore be it 16 RESOLVED, That the Senate urge the Governor to proclaim the
