A RESOLUTION
1 Designating the month of October as "Disability Awareness Month"
2 in Pennsylvania.
3 WHEREAS, People throughout Pennsylvania are working together
4 to increase education, training, employment and accessible
5 housing and recreational opportunities for our disabled
6 citizens; and
7 WHEREAS, Of these objectives, employment is one of the most
8 important; to lead more successful lives, disabled
9 Pennsylvanians must be part of the work force; and
10 WHEREAS, Awareness of the unique problems faced by disabled
11 individuals has led to actions by people with disabilities, by
12 business, by organized labor and by government at all levels to
13 encourage the full integration of workers with disabilities into
14 the Pennsylvania work force; and
15 WHEREAS, While cooperation among disabled persons, the
16 business community, advocacy organizations for persons with
17 disabilities, government agencies and service organizations has
1 led to an enhancement of the quality of life of many disabled
2 persons, efforts to improve opportunities for disabled persons
3 must never cease; and
4 WHEREAS, Congress, by Joint Resolution approved August 11,
5 1945, has designated the first full week in October of each year
6 as "National Employ the Handicapped Week"; therefore be it
7 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
8 declare the month of October as "Disability Awareness Month" in
9 Pennsylvania.
