        REFERRED TO TRANSPORTATION, NOVEMBER 29, 1989

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Authorizing the Senate Transportation Committee to investigate
     2     two similar chain reaction accidents on the northeast
     3     extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

     4     WHEREAS, Seven deaths have resulted from two similar chain
     5  reaction accidents on the northeast extension of the
     6  Pennsylvania Turnpike over a three-month period; and
     7     WHEREAS, It is necessary to get this situation under control
     8  before more lives are lost; therefore be it
     9     RESOLVED, That the Senate Transportation Committee be
    10  authorized to investigate the procedures used by the
    11  Pennsylvania State Police in clearing accidents in order to
    12  determine what steps can be taken to prevent any further
    13  accidents of this type on the turnpike and on all other
    14  Pennsylvania highways; and be it further
    15     RESOLVED, That the committee make a report of its findings
    16  and recommendations to the Senate as soon as possible.
