        INTRODUCED BY MELLOW, STOUT, O'PAKE, WAGNER, MUSTO, KASUNIC,
           COSTA, LOGAN, KITCHEN, KUKOVICH, LAVALLE, TARTAGLIONE, ORIE,
           RAFFERTY, WAUGH AND SCHWARTZ, FEBRUARY 3, 2003

        REFERRED TO TRANSPORTATION, FEBRUARY 3, 2003

                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, further providing for exemption of persons,
     3     entities and vehicles from fees; and making an editorial
     4     change.

     5     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     6  hereby enacts as follows:
     7     Section 1.  Section 1901(c)(18) of Title 75 of the
     8  Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes is amended and the subsection
     9  is amended by adding paragraphs to read:
    10  § 1901.  Exemption of persons, entities and vehicles from fees.

    12     (c)  Processing fee in lieu of registration fee.--No
    13  registration fee shall be charged for vehicles registered by any
    14  of the following but the department shall charge a fee of $10 to
    15  cover the costs of processing for issuing or renewing the
    16  registration:

    18         (18)  [A] Any person who, as a member of the armed forces


     1     of the United States, was captured by the enemy during World
     2     War I, World War II, the Korean Emergency, the Vietnam
     3     Conflict or in a future armed conflict for which the
     4     Department of Defense authorizes a campaign medal.
     5         * * *
     6         (24)  Any person who is an emergency medical technician
     7     or emergency medical technician-paramedic under the act of
     8     July 3, 1985 (P.L.164, No.45), known as the Emergency Medical
     9     Services Act.
    10         (25)  Any person who is a firefighter I or greater or
    11     fire service instructor I or greater according to the Office
    12     of the Pennsylvania State Fire Commissioner or under the
    13     requirements of a certification program authorized by either
    14     the National Board on Fire Service Professional
    15     Qualifications or the International Fire Service
    16     Accreditation Congress or their successors.

    18     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
