A RESOLUTION 1 Designating February 1998 as "Pennsylvania Crimestoppers Month." 2 WHEREAS, Crimestoppers is an international organization with 3 over 450 units formed to help curb the crime rate in communities 4 by channeling information received to the proper authorities for 5 investigation; and 6 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania Crimestoppers, a Pennsylvania not-for- 7 profit organization, was formed in 1986 through the efforts of 8 the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry, the 9 Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association, the Pennsylvania 10 State Police and interested and concerned businesses and 11 citizens of this Commonwealth; and 12 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania Crimestoppers is under the direction of 13 a board of directors from the business community and citizens; 14 and 15 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania Crimestoppers works in conjunction with 16 over 25 county and regional Crimestoppers organizations 17 throughout this Commonwealth; and
1 WHEREAS, Since its inception, Pennsylvania Crimestoppers, 2 along with its county and regional organizations, has paid out 3 over $260,000 in rewards and has produced more than 440 arrests; 4 and 5 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania Crimestoppers has proven to be a 6 positive force in bringing businesses, residents and police 7 together in communities from the Poconos to Pittsburgh in the 8 fight against crime and for public safety; therefore be it 9 RESOLVED, That the Senate designate February 1998 as 10 "Pennsylvania Crimestoppers Month" and urge citizens and 11 businesses to work with each other and with their local police 12 to help make their communities safer.
