SENATE RESOLUTION

No. 122 Session of 1989


        INTRODUCED BY SHUMAKER, DAWIDA, BODACK, SALVATORE, ANDREZESKI,
           O'PAKE, ROCKS, SCANLON, BELL, RHOADES, GREENWOOD, LEMMOND,
           ARMSTRONG, HELFRICK, PUNT, REIBMAN, MADIGAN, HOLL, BAKER,
           BRIGHTBILL, PETERSON, JUBELIRER, PECORA, STEWART, FATTAH,
           PORTERFIELD, AFFLERBACH, LOEPER, LINCOLN, JONES, BELAN, FUMO,
           MELLOW, LEWIS, WILLIAMS, MUSTO, REGOLI, GREENLEAF, WENGER AND
           SHAFFER, DECEMBER 11, 1989

        REFERRED TO INTERGOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS, DECEMBER 11, 1989

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Urging the Governor to establish an economic partnership and a
     2     trade mission with Poland, in particular, and Eastern Europe,
     3     in general, in light of the changing political and economic
     4     conditions in the Soviet bloc.

     5     WHEREAS, Changing political and economic conditions in the
     6  Soviet bloc of nations provide opportunities which may be
     7  mutually beneficial to those nations and this Commonwealth;
     8  therefore be it
     9     RESOLVED, That the Senate of Pennsylvania urge the Governor
    10  to take steps to establish an economic partnership with Poland,
    11  in particular, and the other nations of Eastern Europe; and be
    12  it further
    13     RESOLVED, That the Senate urge the Governor to establish a
    14  trade mission which would develop business ties between
    15  Pennsylvania business, civic and political leaders and Poland
    16  business, civic and political leaders. The goal thereof shall be


     1  to have 50 Pennsylvania companies participating for the purpose
     2  of economic development. The Senate further urges that the
     3  General Assembly appropriate the one-time sum of $250,000 for
     4  this purpose.
