SENATE RESOLUTION

        REFERRED TO VETERANS AFFAIRS AND EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS,
           JULY 28, 2003

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Memorializing the Congress of the United States to pass H.R.
     2     1516.

     3     WHEREAS, Veterans residing in metropolitan Philadelphia are
     4  in desperate need of a new national veterans cemetery; and
     5     WHEREAS, Southeastern Pennsylvania veterans do not have the
     6  opportunity to be buried in a veterans cemetery within 75 miles
     7  of their home, as the Department of Veterans Affairs guidelines
     8  require, and this imposes an emotional and physical burden on
     9  their surviving loved ones; and
    10     WHEREAS, The importance of and need for a veterans cemetery
    11  in the southeastern Pennsylvania region has already been
    12  recognized by the 108th Congress; and
    13     WHEREAS, For providing heroic service and sacrifice to our
    14  nation, southeastern Pennsylvania veterans should have the
    15  opportunity to be buried close to home; therefore be it
    16     RESOLVED, That the Senate of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    17  memorialize Congress to pass H.R. 1516; and be it further


     1     RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to
     2  the presiding officers of each house of Congress and to each
     3  member of Congress from Pennsylvania.
