A RESOLUTION 1 Designating the week of February 11 through 17, 1990, as 2 "Vocational Education Week" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, Vocational education not only prepares students for 4 a successful transition into the working world, it also provides 5 advanced technical training to men and women already in the work 6 force; and 7 WHEREAS, 1988-1989 data indicates a total of 247,462 students 8 were enrolled in Pennsylvania's vocational education programs; 9 there were 131,258 secondary students, an estimated 56,000 10 postsecondary students, and 60,204 adult students; and 11 WHEREAS, In 1988-1989, secondary and adult vocational program 12 enrollments included 14,969 handicapped and 45,053 disadvantaged 13 students; and 14 WHEREAS, In 1988-1989, enrollments totaled 13,590 in Job 15 Training Partnership Act (JTPA) programs administered by the 16 Department of Education; and
1 WHEREAS, An estimated excess of $555 million of Federal, 2 State and local dollars are invested annually to maintain and 3 improve the system of vocational education in this Commonwealth; 4 and 5 WHEREAS, The 87 area vocational-technical schools and 535 6 high schools provide the greatest numbers of vocational 7 education programs; and 8 WHEREAS, Of those responding to the vocational education 9 follow-up survey of 1987-1988 completers, 89.9% of the secondary 10 and 85.6% of the adult respondents were gainfully placed 11 (employed, military service and/or pursuing additional 12 education); and 13 WHEREAS, In 1988-1989, there were 5,122 teachers and 644 14 administrators working in secondary vocational education; 15 therefore be it 16 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 17 designate the week of February 11 through 17, 1990, as 18 "Vocational Education Week" in Pennsylvania.
