SENATE RESOLUTION

No. 129 Session of 1990


        INTRODUCED BY SHUMAKER, JUBELIRER, ROCKS, WENGER, HOPPER,
           REGOLI, MADIGAN, MELLOW, LEWIS, RHOADES, MUSTO, BODACK,
           SALVATORE, AFFLERBACH, REIBMAN, STOUT, O'PAKE, PORTERFIELD
           AND PECORA, JANUARY 23, 1990

        INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED, JANUARY 23, 1990

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating January 1990 as "Pennsylvania Crimestoppers Month."

     2     WHEREAS, Crimestoppers is an International Organization with
     3  over 450 units formed to help curb the crime rate in communities
     4  by channelling information received to the proper authorities
     5  for investigation; and
     6     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania Crimestoppers, a Pennsylvania not-for-
     7  profit organization, will celebrate its fifth anniversary during
     8  1990, having been formed in 1986 through the efforts of the
     9  Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry, the Pennsylvania
    10  Chiefs of Police Association, the Pennsylvania State Police, and
    11  interested businesses and citizens of the Commonwealth of
    12  Pennsylvania; and
    13     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania Crimestoppers is under the direction of
    14  a Board of Directors from the business community and concerned
    15  citizens; and
    16     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania Crimestoppers' operations are managed


     1  by the Pennsylvania State Police, Bureau of Community Affairs,
     2  which handles telephone calls through 1-800-4-PA-TIPS, and which
     3  distributes to appropriate law enforcement agencies all
     4  information received for investigation; and
     5     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania Crimestoppers works in conjunction with
     6  over 23 county and regional Crimestoppers organizations
     7  throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; and
     8     WHEREAS, Since their inception, Pennsylvania Crimestoppers,
     9  along with the county and regional organizations, have a record
    10  of over 827 cases solved, 418 arrests made, $2,124,265 worth of
    11  property recovered, $320,810 in narcotics recovered, and over
    12  127 awards paid; and
    13     WHEREAS, January is "National Crimestoppers Month"; therefore
    14  be it
    15     RESOLVED, That the Senate of Pennsylvania designate January
    16  1990 as "Pennsylvania Crimestoppers Month" and wholeheartedly
    17  commend Pennsylvania Crimestoppers and the county and regional
    18  crimestopper organizations throughout this Commonwealth for
    19  their efforts and success in helping to fight and deter crime in
    20  Pennsylvania; and be it further
    21     RESOLVED, That the Senate of Pennsylvania urge public support
    22  of this worthy endeavor.
