A RESOLUTION 1 Declaring January 31, 1990, as "Catholic School Appreciation 2 Day" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, Catholic schools in Pennsylvania are celebrating 4 Catholic Schools Week during the period from January 28 to 5 February 3, 1990; and 6 WHEREAS, Catholic elementary and secondary schools in 7 Pennsylvania educate approximately 250,000 students; and 8 WHEREAS, Catholic schools instill in our young people a 9 strong foundation of value, enhancing self-esteem, building 10 self-confidence and developing leadership skills; and 11 WHEREAS, Catholic schools prepare young people to serve 12 others in our society and to accept the challenges they will 13 face as leaders of tomorrow; and 14 WHEREAS, Catholic schools save State and local government in 15 excess of 500 million dollars annually in school operational 16 costs, not including capital investment; and 17 WHEREAS, Catholic schools, in educating a quarter of a
1 million students annually with a dropout rate of less than 3% 2 and a postgraduation higher education enrollment rate of 80%, 3 provide young people with solid values and academic skills 4 needed in becoming responsible citizens of Pennsylvania; 5 therefore be it 6 RESOLVED, That the Senate of Pennsylvania express 7 congratulations and appreciation to Catholic elementary and 8 secondary schools across the Commonwealth on the occasion of 9 Catholic Schools Week 1990 and declares January 31, 1990, as 10 "Catholic School Appreciation Day" in Pennsylvania.
