SENATE RESOLUTION

        INTRODUCED BY SALVATORE, ROCKS, JUBELIRER, SHAFFER, GREENLEAF,
           BRIGHTBILL, HOPPER, REIBMAN, BELL, O'PAKE, HELFRICK, PECORA,
           MUSTO, AFFLERBACH AND BELAN, JANUARY 30, 1990

        INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED, JANUARY 30, 1990

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating the week of February 4 through 10, 1990 as "Burn
     2     Awareness Week."

     3     WHEREAS, more than 3,000 victims of burn injury are admitted
     4  to Pennsylvania hospitals each year, and thousand more are
     5  treated from hospital emergency departments and physicians'
     6  offices throughout this Commonwealth; and
     7     WHEREAS, For those who experience severe burn injury, the
     8  impact can be permanent and recovery for those who suffer lesser
     9  effects can be slow and arduous; and
    10     WHEREAS, This Commonwealth is blessed with a fine network of
    11  six specialized burn centers which treat the 1,000 most severely
    12  burned patients in Pennsylvania each year; and
    13     WHEREAS, Burn care education is provided by personnel from
    14  these centers who reach out to those in general hospitals,
    15  ambulance companies, fire companies and community agencies to
    16  prepare them to treat burn patients at many different stages of
    17  their recovery; and


     1     WHEREAS, Burn prevention programs are provided by fire safety
     2  educators through group presentations, publications and media
     3  messages, with the support of the Office of State Fire
     4  Commissioner Jack Simon; and
     5     WHEREAS, The print and broadcast media of this Commonwealth
     6  have cooperated in presenting these messages to the public on a
     7  year-round basis; therefore be it
     8     RESOLVED, That the Senate of Pennsylvania, does hereby
     9  designate the week of February 4 through 10, 1990, as "Burn
    10  Awareness Week" in this Commonwealth and urges the citizens of
    11  this Commonwealth to heed the messages of burn and fire safety,
    12  and to support and cooperate with those throughout Pennsylvania
    13  who are involved in burn treatment, burn care education and burn
    14  prevention efforts.
