No. 139 Session of 2005


        INTRODUCED BY FUMO, MELLOW, O'PAKE, LAVALLE, COSTA, MUSTO,
           HUGHES, FERLO, STOUT, FONTANA, WOZNIAK, C. WILLIAMS,
           TARTAGLIONE, KITCHEN, STACK, LOGAN, A. WILLIAMS AND
           WASHINGTON, JUNE 22, 2005

        REFERRED TO VETERANS AFFAIRS AND EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS,
           JUNE 22, 2005

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Urging the President of the United States to establish a
     2     timeframe for troop withdrawal from Iraq.

     3     WHEREAS, More than two thousand members of the Pennsylvania
     4  Army National Guard are deploying to Iraq, joining 3,500
     5  military personnel from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania who are
     6  already serving there; and
     7     WHEREAS, These troops are part of the largest military
     8  deployment from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania since the
     9  Korean War; and
    10     WHEREAS, Military operations in Iraq have cost more than $200
    11  billion dollars; and
    12     WHEREAS, Military operations in Iraq have wounded more than
    13  12,000 American soldiers and have resulted in the deaths of
    14  1,700 American soldiers; and
    15     WHEREAS, The Senate of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    16  supports House Joint Resolution 55 recently introduced by a


     1  bipartisan group of legislators in the United States House of
     2  Representatives requiring the President of the United States to
     3  develop and implement a plan for troop withdrawal from Iraq
     4  beginning October 2006; therefore be it
     5     RESOLVED, That the Senate of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     6  urge the President to establish a timeframe for troop withdrawal
     7  from Iraq; and be it further
     8     RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to
     9  the President of the United States, to the presiding officers of
    10  each house of Congress and to each member of Congress from
    11  Pennsylvania.
