A RESOLUTION 1 Memorializing the Philadelphia Art Museum and the Fairmont Park 2 Commission to keep the statue of Sylvester Stallone as 3 "Rocky" Balboa at the art museum. 4 WHEREAS, In 1982 the statue of "Rocky" was moved from the 5 steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum to the Spectrum sports 6 complex because it was not considered to be true "art" by the 7 administrators of the museum; and 8 WHEREAS, The true definition of "art" is the conscious use of 9 skill and creative imagination especially in the production of 10 aesthetic objects; and 11 WHEREAS, The statue captures and represents the hopes and 12 aspirations of the common person in a true art form and is 13 appropriately displayed on the front steps of the Philadelphia 14 Art Museum; and 15 WHEREAS, The statue of "Rocky," facing the City of 16 Philadelphia from the steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum, 17 commemorates the spirit of the prizefighter who seized the 18 imagination of the nation in the film "Rocky"; and
1 WHEREAS, The statue has been moved back to the museum steps 2 temporarily for the filming of another "Rocky" movie; therefore 3 be it 4 RESOLVED, That the Senate of Pennsylvania memorialize the 5 Philadelphia Art Museum and the Fairmont Park Commission to keep 6 the "Rocky" statue at its present location, on the steps of the 7 Philadelphia Art Museum, facing the City of Philadelphia.
