A RESOLUTION 1 Designating the month of November 2007 as "Pancreatic Cancer 2 Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, "Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month" is being 4 observed in this Commonwealth to create awareness of pancreatic 5 cancer, the fourth leading cause of cancer death among men and 6 women in the United States; and 7 WHEREAS, More than 37,170 people will be diagnosed with 8 pancreatic cancer this year alone in the United States, and 99% 9 of pancreatic cancer patients will die; and 10 WHEREAS, There are currently no early detection methods and 11 minimal treatment options for pancreatic cancer; and 12 WHEREAS, By the time symptoms generally present themselves, 13 it is too late for a positive prognosis; and 14 WHEREAS, The average survival after diagnosis is only three 15 to six months; and 16 WHEREAS, Pancreatic cancer does not discriminate by age, 17 gender or race; and
1 WHEREAS, The Federal Government invests less money in 2 pancreatic cancer research than in any other leading cancer 3 research; and 4 WHEREAS, The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, Inc. (PanCAN), 5 the premiere voice of advocacy for pancreatic cancer, exists to 6 create awareness, education and funding to find early detection 7 methods and ultimately find the cure for pancreatic cancer; 8 therefore be it 9 RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the month of November 10 2007 as "Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.
