A RESOLUTION
1 Expressing condolences on the passing of R. Lawrence Coughlin,
2 Jr.
3 WHEREAS, R. Lawrence Coughlin, Jr., retired member of the
4 Senate and House of Representatives of Pennsylvania, died on
5 November 30, 2001, at the age of 72; and
6 WHEREAS, Senator Coughlin was born in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne
7 County, Pennsylvania; and
8 WHEREAS, Senator Coughlin was elected to the House of
9 Representatives of Pennsylvania in 1964 and to the Senate of
10 Pennsylvania in 1966, representing Lower Merion Township,
11 Montgomery County; and
12 WHEREAS, Senator Coughlin was elected to represent the 13th
13 Congressional District of Pennsylvania in the Congress of the
14 United States in 1968 and served in that capacity for 12
15 consecutive terms; and
16 WHEREAS, Senator Coughlin retired from Congress in 1993; and
17 WHEREAS, Senator Coughlin is survived by his wife, Susan
1 MacGregor Coughlin, three daughters, a son and five
2 grandchildren; therefore be it
3 RESOLVED, That the Senate note with great sadness the passing
4 of R. Lawrence Coughlin, Jr.; and be it further
5 RESOLVED, That the Senate express its heartfelt condolences
6 to his wife, Susan MacGregor Coughlin, three daughters, son and
7 five grandchildren.
