        INTRODUCED BY STOUT, CORMAN, MELLOW, SALVATORE, DAWIDA, BELAN,
           SCANLON, BODACK, REGOLI, HOPPER, MADIGAN, BRIGHTBILL, WENGER,
           SHUMAKER, STAPLETON, O'PAKE, MUSTO, SHAFFER, AFFLERBACH,
           BELL, PORTERFIELD, ROCKS, PETERSON, RHOADES AND REIBMAN,
           MAY 23, 1990

        REFERRED TO TRANSPORTATION, MAY 23, 1990

                            A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

     1  Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the opening of the
     2     Pennsylvania Turnpike.

     3     WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Turnpike was first opened to the
     4  traveling public on October 1, 1940; and
     5     WHEREAS, Since the opening of the turnpike, more than two
     6  billion vehicles have traveled on the Pennsylvania Turnpike,
     7  driving more than 99.2 billion miles; and
     8     WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Turnpike, the nation's first
     9  superhighway, has greatly contributed to economic growth in
    10  Pennsylvania by facilitating travel for 470 miles across the
    11  State; and
    12     WHEREAS, October 1, 1990, will mark 50 years of unparalleled
    13  service to Pennsylvania Turnpike patrons; therefore be it
    14     RESOLVED (the House of Representatives concurring), That the
    15  General Assembly join the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission in
    16  commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Pennsylvania
