SENATE RESOLUTION

No. 168 Session of 1990


        INTRODUCED BY MADIGAN, HELFRICK, WENGER, STAPLETON AND RHOADES,

        INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED, JUNE 5, 1990

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing June, 1990, as "Dairy Month" in Pennsylvania.

     2     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's dairy industry is our State's number
     3  one agricultural industry, with cash receipts totaling more than
     4  a billion dollars; and
     5     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is the fifth largest state in
     6  production of milk, producing 7% of the national total.
     7  Marketings exceeded ten billion pounds in 1988 as milk
     8  production per cow set new records, with average production per
     9  cow increasing by 109 pounds, for a record 14,232 pounds for the
    10  year; and
    11     WHEREAS, Our dairy producers have set these production
    12  records despite uncooperative weather conditions which impacted
    13  the quality and quantity of feed; and
    14     WHEREAS, Our dairy industry continues to produce and promote
    15  quality products for all consumers to enjoy in various forms,
    16  milk, cheese, ice cream and butter; and
    17     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's dairy industry continues to be a

     1  source of pride for all citizens who savor the beauty of the
     2  farms and flavor of the food products which it makes; therefore
     3  be it
     4     RESOLVED, That the Senate of Pennsylvania hereby recognize
     5  June, 1990, as "Dairy Month" in Pennsylvania.
