           SHUMAKER, WENGER AND MUSTO, JUNE 19, 1990

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating the month of September 1990 as "Labor Recognition
     2     Month."

     3     WHEREAS, Since 1889, Pennsylvania has designated the first
     4  Monday in September as a legal holiday commemorating and
     5  honoring the working men and women of this Commonwealth; and
     6     WHEREAS, The role of the "labor movement" in protecting and
     7  promoting the welfare of workers has many of its roots in
     8  Pennsylvania; and
     9     WHEREAS, Labor, both organized and unorganized, has played a
    10  vital and indispensable role in the social and economic growth
    11  and development of our Commonwealth and our country; and
    12     WHEREAS, It is desirable to foster an understanding and
    13  appreciation of the role of labor in helping to shape our
    14  country's free enterprise economy and way of life; therefore be
    15  it
    16     RESOLVED, That the Senate declare the month of September 1990
    17  as "Labor Recognition Month" in Pennsylvania; and be it further


     1     RESOLVED, That the Senate ask that the citizens and
     2  communities throughout this Commonwealth, individually and
     3  collectively, engage in activities recognizing labor's
     4  continuing contributions to our nation and our State; and be it
     5  further
     6     RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be conveyed to the
     7  Governor and the House of Representatives of this Commonwealth
     8  to solicit their support for this designation.
